Flu Season Protocol

Flu season is here!

Getting prepared can really help boost your immune system and is the best way to avoid those bugs this season!

An alkaline state in your body will have a lot more resistance to getting sick so eat a balanced diet rich in nutrients, vitamins and minerals with lots of fresh veggies and greens !

To get all of your defenses up, exercise, drink plenty of water, get plenty of rest and sleep, and manage stress levels, as fatigue, stress, inadequate nutrition, poor elimination, and emotional upset can bring the immune system down!

Here are a few home remedies to consider when fighting off a cold/flu!

- 1 tsp of baking soda dissolved in 6-8 ounces of fresh water and drank every hour until the cold backs off/to relieve cold symptoms once you’ve already gotten the cold

-Eat a lot of citrus fruits, especially organic ones if possible such as grapefruit, oranges, lemons, limes, and even kiwi for their high vitamin C content to help support the immune system.

-Stay hydrated with a lot of fresh water, well above the daily recommended amount of 8, 8 oz glasses of water, if possible.

-Drink plenty of other fluids, especially hot ones such as herbal teas and hot water with honey and lemon.

- Keep warm, and get plenty of rest. It is always a good idea to stop as soon as we feel ourselves getting ill, rather than ignoring the initial stages and waiting to get really sick!

-In the very beginning, it can be helpful to avoid solid food and drink freshly made fruit and veggie juices. If you do eat solids, avoid too many carbohydrates.

-Drink teas of sage, elderflower, ginger, yarrow, or thyme.

-Breathe deeply. Take about 10 deep breaths every hour. Meditation can also have relief.

-Good hygiene practices are extremely important to decrease spreading the virus or catching it in the first place

-Wash your hands frequently, antibacterial wipes and sprays are not as effective and may disrupt the natural immunity of the skin.

-Do not swallow phlegm or nasal drainage, but rather spit them out into tissues and dispose of them

-Do not share glasses, silverware, or dishes, and wash all with hot water

-Eat chicken soup with a lot of garlic (a natural antibiotic) and parsley. Homemade is best!

-Take echinacea tincture or capsules, zinc, and 1,000 mg of vitamin C every 6 hours

These support measures strengthen the immune system and help fight off, as well as recover from a cold faster!
